It's almost the end of the year! Many schools are in the swing of testing and summer countdowns. You may be feeling the pressure of "have I done enough?" before your kiddos move onto the next grade level. You're not alone and today I'm sharing some fun, easy-to-use resources to help prepare your kids for next year and prevent summer slide. These can also be used in your classroom if you are teaching summer school.
The end of the year is a busy time and summer becomes even busier. Hands-on learning experiences and topics your students are interested in are important to keep them engaged.
Resources
Tie in reading and reflection with this End of Year Decodable Book. The words are simple, but it lets students reflect on memories they made throughout the year. Each page talks about something else they may have done this school year in a way that allows them to see their own reading growth.
This book can be read as a whole class, small groups, or as an independent read. I personally loved to read it as a class and then have it as a center for students to then read on their own.
Get your students excited to continue writing all summer with this Summer Journal. It comes with 55 prompts in 4 different line styles for all summer long. When given as a gift from their teacher, it will help students feel excited to use it and document their memories throughout the break. The different line styles make this resource versatile for various abilities, so if you have kids of different ages or who need- or don't need- primary lines, the same resource has your covered! There are also blank pages to bring this resource to 60 days of writing.
One parent told me that she was able to print this for her kids of 3 different ages and abilities. They each had a book that fit their needs, which made life easier for this parent!
Whether you are teaching summer school or preventing summer slide for your own kids, my Summer Review Bundles cover all the basics for Kinder to First or First to Second grade. Each of these bundles comes with over 25 resources to work on alphabet, reading, math, writing, and more! They include hands-on, engaging games, center activities, alphabet posters, and writing organizers.
End of year gifts are common for many teachers. A simple, educational add-on are these Reading Log Bookmarks. There are 4 different styles to make it the perfect gift for your kindergartener or you're 6th grader! They can record the books they read over the summer and how they would rate the book. Come August, they'll be able to look back and see all the books they have been able to read. These are a great tool and saves books from all the other random things kids will use as a bookmark!
Quick Tip
Save on paper by printing more than one page to a page for activities in the bundles. Many of my center activities can be printed smaller and work just as well as the full-scale option.
Thank you for teaching the next generation. It is often a thankless and challenging job. You're doing better than you think and you can make it to the end of the school year!
